Gold Carats - 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 24ct

Gold Carats - 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 24ct

The number in carat gold represents how many parts of 24 are pure gold - think of it as a recipe indicating how much of the main component is present.
Because 24ct or pure gold is so delicate, it is rarely used in beautiful jewellery. Instead, pure gold is alloyed with other metals, most often silver and copper, to create the hardness and endurance required to hold gemstones, resist tiny scratches, and modify the metal's colour. For example, is 14 parts pure gold and 24 parts various alloys such as silver and copper (for yellow gold) and nickel or palladium (for white gold). The higher the karat, the more pure gold it contains and hence has the greatest impact on your material cost. Jody Jewellery works predominantly in 9ct yellow gold due to its soft but warm yellow tint and long-lasting sturdiness, although most of our collection pieces can be customised in a higher karat or a different colour of gold.
